Experiential Cooking at Home

Early learners at our DC Campus are immersed in a project cycle dedicated to “restaurants” (read more about a recent X-Day to a Tea House). When learning moved from the classroom to our homes, Early Learning Teacher, Mintong Zheng, led an experiential lesson in cooking from her house! Learn more about her lesson plan and the responses from students below.

EXCERPT FROM LESSON PROMPT FROM EARLY LEARNING TEACHER, MINTONG ZHENG:

Cooking has been a wonderful investigation and exposure into the Chinese culture. We invite you to re-watch the the dumpling cooking demonstration part 1 and part 2 for inspiration. Then, please let your student choose a recipe (a familiar one you’ve used together is great) to where they can be a leader and teacher, as they share their knowledge from cooking/baking their recipe with someone at home. After cooking and eating, please have your child dictate (while you write their words verbatim) their answer to the follow reflection:

1. How would you describe what you ate? Use your senses to share about the smell, taste, and feel of the food as you eat.

2. Did you like it?  Why or why not?  Write/Dictate a food critic review.
