About
Whittle School & Studios
DC Campus
Whittle School & Studios is the first truly global, modern school for children in Pre-K3 through 12th Grade. We offer a global education across a network of modern, thoughtfully designed campuses around the world; a carefully developed progressive curriculum rooted in interdisciplinary and experiential learning; and an unequaled advising system to provide a personalized education. Immersed in a second language, students learn to develop both their cultural and language proficiency to be ready for college and the workforce of the future.
In Fall 2019, our first two campuses opened in Washington, DC and Shenzhen, China. Within a decade, we will expand to a global network of schools in the world’s leading cities. With design inspiration from renowned architect Renzo Piano, these campuses will be engaging environments where students can pursue their passions and achieve their highest potential. Flexible workspaces, theaters, on-campus accelerators, makerspaces, and robotics and coding labs will ensure that education extends beyond classroom walls. Each campus will also include residential dormitories for local and regional boarding students, as well as for those studying abroad from other Whittle campuses. Each Whittle campus will serve approximately 2,000–2,500 students with approximately 150 students per grade.
Our core academic curriculum is rigorous and comprehensive — science, technology, engineering, math, humanities, global and local history, creative arts & design — and integrates best practices from schools around the world, with careful consideration for what is required by the education codes and college entrance exams in each of the countries in which we operate.
Aligned with Whittle pedagogy, our Studios programs are thoughtfully designed to integrate with our full-time program, enabling students to go deeper into an existing area of interest, or to explore something new. They usually take a creative, multidisciplinary approach to learning, providing a multitude of on-campus and city-wide experiential learning opportunities as well as resources globally within or beyond the system. They are accessible for both Whittle and non-Whittle students from ages 3-18.
As Founder and CEO, Chris Whittle says, “We want to change for the better the lives of those students who attend and, beyond our own campuses, contribute to the cause of education on every continent. We measure our merit not through the narrowness of exclusivity but through the breadth of our impact.”
Looking Back
Opening Week, September 2019
On September 4, Whittle School & Studios celebrated the opening of its Washington, DC campus. More than 180 students from pre-school through 10th grade entered the school as faculty, staff, and parents cheered them on at a welcome ceremony.
Our Global Network
Our campuses in Washington, DC and Shenzhen are just the beginning. Over the next 10 years, Whittle School & Studios will build a global network of campuses in major cities across Asia, the Americas, Europe, India, and the Middle East. At full capacity, we will be a highly integrated global learning community with a faculty of more than 10,000 serving over 90,000 full-time students, as well as hundreds of thousands of other students joining us part-time, either virtually or on campus.
With our seamlessly designed curriculum, students will be able to move easily between our different campuses on different continents, whether for a semester or year-long study abroad program, or for a full transfer. As our global network expands, so will the opportunities for our students to become truly global citizens.
